14: Its Always Colorful !!

A year when we made some of our toughest decisions

It was January 2020 and we were gearing up for our signature festival, the AKS Color Carnival, an event that we have nurtured like our baby, grown from scratch. I remember that in the first year of that event in 2017, we slept on the grounds to make sure everything happened on time. Due on March 6th 2020, the preparations for the event were in full swing. But then on March 2nd as we began ground preparations the news of an approaching pandemic began spreading. I will never forget that time when the onus of deciding whether to hold the event or not (together with all the accompanying financial implications) was on our team. We’d never felt so helpless, but at the same time learnt the value of decision making keeping the safety of people over our own dreams and goals.

Every cloud has a silver lining

This is a quote that we all have been hearing since childhood and 2020 gave it a true definition. Being in the events industry, it was dream to be home on time. Well, for me it was a bonus – with business at a standstill, I was home all the time! It did take a while for me (and the family) to get used to the ‘stay at home concept’. But once it did, every hour was worth it. I would spend time with my kids, work out, play games, catch up on my favorite shows and the much-needed sleep. The best part was – after all these activities, I still had more time! A feeling I hadn’t felt since university. Every day, I’d ask myself, ‘What else can I do today?’ It turned out I had a lot to do. I went back to all the things on my wish list and realized that they were just a click away but the only thing I never had was time. I’m listing just two of these achievements – professionally and personally.

The gift of time

I completed a music course that I had been planning for 5 years. It took me 6 weeks to finish it and I even had ample time to practice. I intend to continue learning and practicing.

The one thing me and my wife and I had a strong difference of opinion on was about getting a dog. After several discussions, she agreed to bring one home, provided I took out time to train him. This was my opportunity and Junior (our Maltese puppy) came into our lives in March 2020. I had all the time to not only to train him but also make him an integral part of our family.

I’ve always owned many watches, but I never really had the time. 2020 helped me truly experience the value of time and how to use it for those that I love, and for myself.
